Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but by me." Basically He meant that He is the bridge that gets you to heaven. Scripture states that our sin is what keeps us separated from God. The good news is that  anyone that calls on the Lord will be saved. To become a Christ follower you must do a few things:

1) Admit that you are a sinnner

2) Believe that Jesus loved you so much that He died on the cross for your sin

3) Confess your sin to God and ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and save you.....the following prayer is a guide to help you.

Dear Jesus...I know that I am a sinner, but I know that you loved me enough to die on the cross for my sin, I ask you to forgive me of my sin, come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for the gift of eternal life. From this day forward I will follow you.
